Exam Domain Breakdown

The DP-100 exam is divided into four measured skill areas. Focus your study time proportionally to the domain weights.

DomainWeightKey Topics
Design and prepare a machine learning solution30-35%Workspace design, compute targets, data assets, pipeline architecture
Explore data and train models25-30%EDA, feature engineering, AutoML, custom training scripts
Deploy and optimize models20-25%Managed endpoints, batch scoring, MLflow, model monitoring
Implement responsible AI5-10%Fairness, interpretability, differential privacy, error analysis
Study Priority: Spend roughly 35% of your time on Design/Prepare, 30% on Explore/Train, 25% on Deploy/Optimize, and 10% on Responsible AI. The first domain alone accounts for nearly a third of your score.

Question Types You Will See

  • Multiple choice (single answer) — Choose the best answer from 4 options. Most common type.
  • Multiple select — "Select all that apply" with 2-3 correct answers out of 5-6 options. Partial credit may apply.
  • Drag and drop / ordering — Place steps in the correct order (e.g., pipeline stages, deployment workflow).
  • Case studies — Read a scenario (1-2 pages) then answer 4-6 questions about it. You can revisit the case study text. These typically appear at the beginning of the exam.
  • Hot area (select region) — Click on the correct area of a diagram or code snippet.
  • Yes/No statement sets — Evaluate 3-5 statements as true or false. Each statement scored independently.
