Microsoft Teams Avatar Integration

Microsoft Teams offers built-in 3D avatar support through Mesh, letting you participate in meetings as an animated character that mirrors your voice and gestures.

Teams Avatars (Mesh)

Microsoft Mesh powers Teams' native avatar experience:

  • Customizable 3D avatars with diverse appearance options
  • Voice-driven animation — avatar lip-syncs and gestures as you speak
  • Reaction animations triggered by Teams reactions (thumbs up, clap, etc.)
  • Available in regular Teams meetings (no VR headset required)
  • Immersive Spaces for spatial meeting experiences

Setting Up Teams Avatars

  1. Create Your Avatar

Open Teams → Settings → Avatars → Create. Customize face, hair, body, and wardrobe.

  2. Join Meeting as Avatar

When joining a meeting, select "Avatar" instead of "Camera On" or "Camera Off."

  3. Use Reactions

Click reaction buttons to trigger avatar animations. Raise hand, clap, and other gestures.

  4. Switch Mid-Meeting

Toggle between camera and avatar at any time during the meeting.

Immersive Spaces

Teams Immersive Spaces take avatars further with spatial meetings:

  • 3D virtual rooms where avatars sit around tables or in auditoriums
  • Spatial audio — sound changes based on avatar position
  • Screen sharing appears on virtual screens in the space
  • Works on desktop; enhanced with VR headset (Meta Quest)

Enterprise tip: Teams avatars are included in Microsoft 365 licenses at no extra cost. They're the easiest avatar option to deploy across large organizations since no additional software is needed.
