Creating Presentations

Master Gamma's content creation tools, from AI generation and card types to embedded content, charts, code blocks, and advanced layout options.

Creating from Scratch vs. AI Generation

Gamma offers two primary creation paths:

Approach When to Use Speed
AI Generation New presentations where you want AI to create content and design Fastest — complete in under a minute
From Template When you want a specific structure and will fill in your own content Medium — structure provided, you add content
From Scratch When you want full control over every aspect of the presentation Slowest — but maximum flexibility
Import + AI When you have existing content (text, PDF, URL) to transform Fast — AI restructures your existing content

Card Types

Cards are the building blocks of every Gamma presentation. Each card can contain multiple content blocks:

  • Text card: Rich text with headings, paragraphs, lists, and inline formatting
  • Image card: Full-bleed images, image grids, or image-text combinations
  • Embed card: Live embedded content from 20+ services (YouTube, Figma, Google Maps, Airtable, etc.)
  • Table card: Structured data in responsive tables with sorting and styling
  • Chart card: Bar charts, line charts, pie charts, and more with editable data
  • Gallery card: Image galleries with carousel or grid layouts

Adding Content: Images

Gamma provides multiple ways to add images:

  • AI-generated images: Describe what you want and Gamma creates a custom image using AI. Perfect for unique illustrations and conceptual visuals
  • Stock photos: Search and insert from a library of free stock images directly within the editor
  • Upload: Upload your own images, screenshots, photos, or logos
  • URL: Paste an image URL to insert from the web
  • GIFs: Search and insert GIFs from GIPHY for engaging, animated content
AI Image Generation Prompt Examples
# Specific and descriptive prompts work best:

"A modern, minimalist illustration of a team
collaborating remotely, with laptops and video
call screens, using blue and purple color scheme"

"An isometric diagram showing data flowing through
a cloud architecture with servers, databases, and
API connections"

"A professional photograph of a diverse team in
a modern office space having a productive meeting"

Videos, Charts, and Code Blocks

Videos

Embed videos directly in your cards from YouTube, Vimeo, Loom, or upload your own. Videos play inline within the presentation — no external tabs or downloads required.

Charts

Create data visualizations with Gamma's built-in chart editor:

  • Bar, line, pie, donut, and area charts
  • Enter data directly or paste from a spreadsheet
  • Charts automatically style to match your theme colors
  • Interactive tooltips when viewers hover over data points

Code Blocks

For technical presentations, insert syntax-highlighted code blocks:

  • Support for 50+ programming languages
  • Automatic syntax highlighting
  • Copy-to-clipboard button for viewers
  • Line numbers and custom font sizing

Math Equations

Insert mathematical notation using LaTeX syntax. Gamma renders equations beautifully inline or as display blocks.

Nested Cards

One of Gamma's unique features is the ability to nest cards within cards:

  • Create sub-sections within a card for organized, hierarchical content
  • Nested cards can have their own backgrounds, borders, and styling
  • Use nested cards for comparison layouts, feature grids, or team member profiles
  • Nested cards collapse and expand for interactive exploration

Multi-Level Layouts

Gamma offers flexible layout options for organizing content within cards:

  • Single column: Content stacked vertically — simple and focused
  • Two columns: Side-by-side content for comparisons, text-image pairs
  • Three columns: Grid layouts for feature lists, team bios, or metric dashboards
  • Asymmetric: 1/3 - 2/3 or 2/3 - 1/3 splits for varied visual rhythm
  • Gallery grid: Automatic grid arrangement for multiple items

Slide vs. Scroll Mode

Gamma presentations can be viewed in two modes:

Mode Behavior Best For
Slide mode One card at a time, navigate with arrows or clicks. Classic presentation feel Live presentations, meetings, formal pitches
Scroll mode All cards on a continuous scrollable page. Document-like experience Reports, proposals, self-service reading
Pro tip: Create your presentation once and use both modes. Slide mode for live presentations, scroll mode for sharing as a document afterward. The same content works in both formats without any changes.

💡 Try It: Rich Content Card

Create a card in Gamma that uses at least three different content types: text, an image (AI-generated or uploaded), and an embed (YouTube video or chart). Experiment with the layout options to arrange them attractively.

The combination of multiple content types in a single card is what makes Gamma presentations more engaging than traditional slide decks.
