  2. Configure Virtual Camera

Enable the virtual camera output in your avatar software (Spout/NDI for best quality).

  3. Add to OBS

In OBS, add a new Video Capture source pointing to the virtual camera, or use Window Capture with chroma key.

  4. Green Screen Removal

Apply chroma key filter to remove the background, leaving just your avatar.

  5. Scene Composition

Layer your avatar over game capture, presentation slides, or custom backgrounds.

Streaming Platforms

  • Twitch: Largest VTuber community; good discovery for gaming content
  • YouTube Live: Better for long-form content; VOD archiving built in
  • TikTok LIVE: Growing VTuber presence; good for short, engaging streams
  • Bilibili: Largest VTuber platform in China/Asia

Audience Interaction

  • Chat reactions: Avatar responds to chat commands with special animations or expressions
  • Donation effects: Trigger avatar animations when viewers donate or subscribe
  • AI chat integration: Connect LLM to generate avatar responses to viewer questions
  • Mini-games: Interactive games where viewers control aspects of the avatar or scene
Hardware recommendation: For smooth streaming with real-time avatar animation, you'll need a mid-range GPU (RTX 3060 or better), 16GB+ RAM, and a stable internet connection (10+ Mbps upload). An iPhone for face tracking significantly improves quality.
